Just like the average human, birthdays are a big deal to me. For as long as I can remember, I used my birthday as a reunion with several people. This year was the first time I was unable to celebrate my birthday with my family and friends who’ve known me for years. I was bashful to tell my Miami friends when my birthday was because I figured they wouldn’t understand the hype. I finally let them know the big day was Friday, December 18th.
As the big day drew near I was torn in between two events: ugly sweater Christmas party or party at Dream. A lot of people I knew were raving about attending the ugly sweater Christmas party, but I was trying to get cute for my 24th birthday! I didn’t feel like buying an ugly sweater and I already had a birthday outfit. I finally made a decision and I chose club Dream.
Now I had never gone to this club and didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that it was free for ladies, the place to be on Fridays and it was in South Beach. I don’t know about you and how your friends get down, but I was sold at free. I had all these plans to turn up as soon as I got home after work, but the inner Grandma took over me. I literally got home and watched Netflix until 9pm. I told my friends to arrive at my place around 10pm, but no one is ever on time in Miami.
Unfortunately, this is the day my people were on time. When they arrived, I was still in lounging clothes with no make up on. Some how I was able to put on a full face of makeup and slide on my jumper within 30 minutes. I hadn’t been pre-gaming at all because let’s be honest, how was I going to do my make up with alcohol in my system without looking like a clown? Exactly. Once I was all put together, the party connoisseur started pouring me shots…of Hennessy. I’ve never really drank Henny, but my Lord I was not prepared.
By the time we got to South Beach, I was lit like bic. People were buying me drinks, the music was on point and I was in my zone. I wasn’t sure how my birthday would turn out being away from home, but my Miami family really went hard for me. Some how they were able to see how important my birthday was to me and helped me bring it in like it was their day as well.
The next day, Jesus Christ. All I have to say is “sunglasses and advil, last night was mad real.” Check out the very few pictures I was able to take, haha!
